Need to swear an affidavit? Let Link help. Swearing an affidavit may sound complicated, but our notaries can make the process simple. A notary is authorized to swear affidavits and will guide you through the process.

An affidavit is a written document with a list of statements that are sworn before a notary and may be used as evidence in a trial. It's crucial to review the affidavit before swearing it, as you are confirming that the contents are true. Lying on an affidavit is illegal.

Affidavits are commonly used in court proceedings, but they can also be used for a variety of other purposes. For example, if you want to do business in another country, that country may require you to swear an oath that certain facts are true.

Notaries in Ontario are authorized to swear affidavits, binding the person to ensure the contents are true. Our notaries can swear any affidavit in Ontario, even for use in court. The notary's role is simply to physically witness someone swear that the information is true. Please do not sign the affidavit before coming to the notary, as you'll need to cross out your signature before the oath is administered. After the oath, you'll need to re-sign the document above your crossed-out signature.

If your affidavit refers to an "exhibit," make sure to bring those to your appointment. Our notary must make specific notations on all exhibits for the affidavit to be considered valid.

For Small Claims Court, affidavits should be on Form 15 B. You can find it by clicking here. Take a look at the Rules of the Small Claims Court for more information, which can be found here. Trust Link to handle your affidavit needs. Contact us today.
